Evers is the eldest child of John Robert and Jequita Evers. He grew up in the farming community of Munson, Florida where he worked on the family farm alongside his father and brother Eric and sister Kay. In early 1975, his family opened a farm supply in Baker, Florida. By 1985, Evers purchased the farm supply from his parents and he continues to operate it today. In addition to the farm supply, Evers has continuously operated his own farm growing mostly peanuts, cotton, and strawberries.

In mid-2001, Evers won a special election to fill the seat in the 1st district of the state House being vacated by Jeff Miller.
